Alergias
Los alérgenos como el polen no son más qué antígenos foráneos de las plantas. El estímulo para estornudar es desatado cuando los alérgenos entran al tejido nasal. Los alérgenos del polen encuentran células de plasma en la nariz, las cuales responden produciendo anticuerpos. Estos anticuerpos se adhieren a los mastocitos, los cuales son glóbulos blancos que contienen la histamina. A medida que se producen más anticuerpos, los mastocitos liberan más histamina. Entonces, la histamina produce los síntomas de la alergia. Una nariz tapada y mocosa, estornudos y ojos llorosos ayudan a retirar el polen invasor.
